BIG MOUNTAIN ANIMAL SANCTUARY

Big Mountain Animal Sanctuary  (BMWAS) is a lifecare sanctuary for unadoptable, abused, neglected, physically impaired, abandoned or older animals.

BMWAS is the last stop for animals in need of a home.  The animals at BMWAS are allowed as much freedom as practical and are provided very adequate shelter from the elements.  For example, Horses, Mules and Burro's at the sanctuary are allowed to graze on over 255 fenced acres and each is provided an individual stall and corral area.

They are considered unadoptable due to abuse, severe neglect, physical impairment or age and yet have the potential to live out their life in happiness and relatively pain free.  Unfortunately, it is the opinion of many that once an animal no longer meets an owners needs they become despensible.  For example, in the case of a horse, "if it can't be ridden what good is it".  Or, in the case of domestic pets, "it no longer fits my lifestyle".

BMWAS is an alternative to the auction/slaughterhouse for equine.  An alternative choice to the animal testing laboratories, premature death or abandoning of a domestic pet.
